Lake Martha Lake Association

Meeting Minutes

Friday, May 5, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7:16pm at the home of Jim & Angela Miller – 7412 Ninth Street SE.  There were 14 people in attendance representing 11 households.

The minutes from the April meeting were accepted as written.

Vicky Rydberg presented the treasurer’s report, which was accepted.  The balances of the checking and savings accounts as of May 5, 2006, were $1,210.95 and $444.25, respectively.

Jim Miller got a secchi disk reading of 7 feet earlier in the day.

MidWest Aqua Care is waiting for the water temperature to reach 65 degrees in order to apply the curly leaf weed treatment per Craig Kasa.

Craig K. mentioned that next year there might be some grant money available to the Association to treat the entire lake for curly leaf.  Bruce Biederman suggested that the application be completed early, if possible.

Paul Johnson said that it is a pipe dream that the public access ramp will ever be closed.  Bill Tregaskis said that the DNR could limit the parking at the ramp.  Bruce B. stated that Molly Gammett’s (a former resident) mother worked at the DNR and stated that small lakes can be closed to the public for over fishing, etc.  Bruce B. said that he would work with someone regarding this topic.  Dan Frump volunteered to call the DNR and to do the initial research.

Craig K. asked for ideas for this year’s picnic on August 19th.  Julie Kasa said pizza and beer.  She also volunteered her yard again for this year.  Julie K. said that the only issue she had was the amount of trash afterwards.  Mary Leffler said that people could take a bag home with them just as at past picnics and alleviate that problem this year.  Bill T. suggested that the Lake Association pay for an extra garbage pick-up.  Angela Miller & Theresa Witstine volunteered their yards for the picnic – where it was held a few years ago.  Julie K. said that she liked the fact that her screen door on the garage kept the bugs off the food.  Others agreed and the location of the annual picnic will again be the Kasa’s backyard.  An Italian theme was suggested.  Jim M. said that spaghetti would be easy and cheap to do.  Vicky R. suggested a Chinese theme and said that she would cater it.  After discussions of preparing and freezing the food in advance, a Chinese theme was agreed upon.  The members of the Picnic Committee will be decided at the next meeting.  Volunteers will be needed for preparing and cooking the food, shopping for supplies, contest organizing, setting up/decorating and cleaning up.

Craig K. stated that a woman at Onyx said that they have matched competitor’s prices in the past and she didn’t see a problem with doing so again.  However, the guy that Craig was working with will be back next week and will make that decision.

Jim Mattson’s friend owns the domain that the Association’s website was on and he has the password.  Yet no one knows where he is.  Mary L. suggested changing the name to “.com” from “.org”.  Paul Johnson said that everything would have to be re-designed if we did that.  Jim Mattson said that he, himself, would try to get a hold of his friend and get the necessary information to renew the website.

Vicky R. is waiting on the new residents’ information from Polly Willhite/the Hospitality Committee to update the Directory.

Frank Summers stated that he isn’t getting his e-mails because Direct Way and Hughes had a fight.  Theresa W. said that Wright-Hennepin is having a picnic on the 11th about WHLink DSL.  Jim M. passed around the flyer that some people had received with the picnic/open house details.  Angela M. was asked to e-mail the information to all of the residents.

Theresa W. mentioned that some Lake Charlotte residents said they hadn’t heard of the road paving being a done deal when she was at the Lake Charlotte Spring Social.  Bruce B. said that per Greg Eckblad it is.  Someone had heard that the paving would start in late September.  In addition, a rumor said that it is suppose to be done by the end of the year.

Bruce B. motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:45pm.  Bill T. and Julie K. seconded.
